STEWARDSHIP AT MAYFLOWER CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
When most people hear stewardship mentioned, they immediately think of money. You know, here it comes again--the church is asking for more of my money. Although it is true that Mayflower has an annual stewardship campaign to underwrite the budget, it is also true that stewardship is much more than money.
As Christ followers, stewardship is about putting our discipleship into action. It's about taking responsibility for what God has freely given us. Our response to God is our stewardship demonstrated in our prayers, presence, gifts and service.
In joining Mayflower Congregational Church, a member covenants to participate in the life of the church in five specific ways:
a. To live a Christian life in daily relationships.
b. To participate in the programs and life of the Church.
c. To attend services of worship regularly.
d. To promote the Church enthusiastically.
e. To contribute toward the financial support of the Church.
Yes, we need for you to prayerfully consider your gift of money because with our building, staff and programs, our financial needs are great. But just think of the work we could do, the people we could serve, and the outreach programs we could have if every member was also active in the ongoing life of the church.
You are needed! To lead and serve on committees, to teach and lead in Christian Education, to make visitors and guests feel welcome, to reach out into the community through service, to work in maintaining building and grounds, to make and serve cookies and snacks, in short, to be good stewards of our gifts and talents for the glory of God and the good of the people.
God owns our time, talents and treasure, but we are responsible for using them wisely. So the question becomes: What kind of stewards are we? The ways we use money, time, abilities, influence, and relationships are interrelated because of our relationship to Christ. Imagine Jesus standing before you and saying "Go forth and be a steward." How do we respond?
